If you’ve never tried barre before get ready to be pleasantly surprised by a low impact, high intensity workout that combines Pilates, resistance training and ballet to strengthen, shape and tone in an environment fit for any fitness level and all ages. All of our instructors are trained to offer a wide variety of modifications so that you can truly come as you are! Our passion is to bring you a top notch workout that is challenging but not overwhelming. We recommend you try one of our traditional barre classes as your first class. They are 1 hour in length and provide a great experience of what our full body barre workouts offer.

What is Barre anyway?

Barre is a full body workout that focuses on isometric movements while using your own body weight to tone and strengthen each muscle group. Barre is an athletic blend of Pilates and resistance training with a ballet base. Every class is exciting and combines athletic movements with ballet barre positions to provide a class that is challenging but not overwhelming. You’ll be surprised by the way these tiny movements bring big change. Every class is music driven and although you feel a burn as we bring our muscles to fatigue (and yes, some shake too!), a thorough stretch follows to encourage strong, lean and flexible bodies for an overall greater quality of life. Barre Nation focuses on proper alignment, a strong core, increasing flexibility and feeling stronger with each class. Modifications are offered in every class so that all fitness levels can attend with confidence. Explore our four class formats below:

Barre and Barre Express:

In these low impact, open level barre classes you will be challenged but not overwhelmed. Barre uses isometric movements, light weights, and your own body to tone and strengthen each muscle group in the body. Traditional ballet barre classes are 1 hour in length and modifications are offered for all fitness levels. In our 45 minute express barre classes, you will find a shorter warmup and many combination movements so that you can still get the full body workout that you need in a shorter time frame. Pop in on your lunch break or end your day with 45 minutes of the barre you love.


Barre Flow
:

Need a deep breath and a good stretch? This is it! Set to just the lights of the chandeliers, Barre Flow is a 1 hour class focusing on deep stretches, flexibility, releasing tension, reducing stress and restoring a healthy mind-body connection. Class is mat based where we will include some of your favorite barre positions and all of the barre stretches you crave. Flow is finished with a chilled lavender eye compress and hands on stretch assistance.


Cardio Barre:

Get your heart rate up while we max out our muscles in our Cardio Barre classes. These classes use interval training and are set to a faster paced beat to bring the heat, shake and sweat while keeping a barre and Pilates base. Even with a dynamic pace our cardio classes are still low impact. Expect fewer stretches throughout class but a long restorative stretch at the end of every class. Cardio classes are offered in a 1 hour and a 45 minute format.


Barre Restore:

Barre Restore is a mix of the barre you love (45 minutes) followed by a time of restoration and stretch (45 minutes). This 90 minute class is designed to balance out the strength work of barre with deep, purposeful stretching. We incorporate a foam roller to focus on longer holds and releasing tight or sore muscles for a full physical and mental restoration. Barre Restore is just what your body needs for optimal training and health.


Glutes:

In this 50 minute class we dive deep into lower body work, recruit our core for support and, of course, shape our glutes! Focusing on our lower body, we will work to strengthen our glutes and in doing so, increase the efficacy of our classic barre workout. Class will include standing glute work, floor glute work, a core series and a deep stretch (we might even grab the foam rollers)! Come give your glutes some extra love! This class is offered every Thursday evening at 6:30pm and once a month on Saturdays at 9:30am. Book it early!

What do I wear and what can I expect?

Barre Nation Instructors

Wear whatever you feel comfortable working out in that allows your body to move freely. We suggest that you workout barefoot or in sticky socks (which help your feet keep a grip on the hardwood floors). When you arrive, your instructor will show you around the studio and help you get settled and set up. Our studio is 1,500 square feet and totally open so there is a lot of room to spread out and feel comfortable. You will be working out with a wide variety of age groups and fitness levels and that’s intentional. We love having a combination of generations that represent a diverse range of fitness levels at the barre. Your instructor will show you how to take each position up to the next level or down for less intensity. As you gain strength, you will find yourself letting go of the barre for longer periods of time as you gain balance and coordination. You will begin sitting lower in your pliés, holding your plank without dropping to your knees, and taking your workout to the next level in a variety of other ways. Your instructor will always be cheering you on and showing you how to get more from your workout. We believe we have a lot to learn from each other and that bringing a wide variety of fitness levels, ages and stages into one room is a beautiful way to encourage each other, accept each other and push each other on as we change our bodies.

Wonderful class! The space is amazing, very open and airy! Definitely a tough workout but you feel great after. The instructor did an amazing job of walking you through the exercises so even if you aren’t familiar with the workout, you can pick it up fast.
